For their second cd here, Big Ray & The Futuras compiled tunes from a couple of live radio performances at stations in their local Boston vicinity. This is solid well-reverbed trio surf, with a handful of covers, a couple numbers off their first disc, and a couple new ones. Even though Shot In The Dark, Our Favorite Martian, and Cecilia Ann are getting a lotta cover treatment these days, I still have a hard time getting tired of them, and these guys do nice takes of their own. Doom Buggy is fittingly named, with a dark, tough double-picked reverby melody. Go-go flavored surf on The Shag, with a fun danceable sound and strutting lead git. Exotic spacey melody on Life On Mars. Also great cover art by the same illustrator as on their first disc.
